Well been a busy couple days here at our home. Firewood was delivered  on Monday, so in other words you might say that my lovely wife and I have had  our exercise equipment delivered right to our door.  That is the nice thing about living in the country, living within our means and enjoying each day as it is brought before us and making it for all its worth, that we do.  There isn’t one day that appears that my wife and I doesn’t take advantage of enjoying each moment.   The firewood below is ten cords of split hardwood, total amount is 12 cords.  I had around five cords in the shelter, so all total will be lots for heating the house next winter. Getting the wood this early assures of good dry wood for the next burning season.  Our heat for this winter is looked after and sitting in the basement. No going out in the cold for this couple, that’s for sure.  Never could understand why folks buy these outside furnaces, as in my mind who wants to get  up in the middle of a snow storm at three AM in the morning and go out in that cold, just to put a log on the fire. Think about that for a minute.   Ok………. that should tell you something shouldn’t it.   Hmm…… oh well, takes all kinds and to each his or her own I suppose.  Have a great day!!

Thought I would share this picture, not too sure where it was taken, but it sure has a few stories to tell and, well that is what I am all about.

Well lots of rain these days, at least for us here in Port Loring Ontario.  Also gotten quite cool too. But old wood furnace has taken care of that problem.  With sixteen cords of firewood in the basement piled high and dry, what more can a fellow ask for, right?   Sure gives me a good feeling knowing we will be warm this winter no matter what old Mother Nature sends  our way.  And she does that quite well every once in awhile, guess to keep folks on their toes or when they get to feeling to big for their britches.   Also the cupboards are stuffed full with preserves from our garden that my lovely wife has done up, so again it sure gives me a good feeling inside.  Warmth and food, husband & wife is about a few of the most important items on ones list when them cold north winds start to howl.  Got some raking yet to do around the house yet and soon as I gather up the leaves and put them down on the garden I will till it up, and should be a go for next spring.  One has to look ahead if he or she wants to live a good life style, and wife and I do that quite well too, if I might say so myself.   Also put a new cap on my chimney yesterday or should say the wife did, as it was getting a touch shabby and I am scared of heights.  Today it’s applesauce making, and while I do that the wife will be making apple pies and putting them in the freezer for a tasty treat here and there through out winter.  Also that applesauce from our old tree out back will sure be nice with some pork chops.  So guess I will go, hope you folks are also all set for winter, and remember, pick up some Vitamin D drops for winter and you won’t be needing any of them flu shots.  In my eyes no one should be getting them.  Talk Soon.

Beechwood fires are bright and clear
If the logs are kept a year,
Chestnut’s only good they say,
If for logs ’tis laid away.
Make a fire of Elder tree,
Death within your house will be;
But ash new or ash old,
Is fit for a queen with crown of gold.

Birch and fir logs burn too fast
Blaze up bright and do not last,
it is by the Irish said
Hawthorn bakes the sweetest bread.
Elm wood burns like churchyard mould,
Elm the very flames are cold
But Ash green or Ash brown
Is fit for a queen with golden crown.

Poplar gives a bitter smoke,
Fills your eyes and makes you choke,
Apple wood will scent your room
Pear wood smells like flowers in bloom
Oaken logs, if dry and old
keep away the winter’s cold
But Ash wet or Ash dry
A king shall warm his slippers by.
